DayZ Day 11 – The Ghillie Man

With all my new equipment I lived for a couple of days in a forest near a village. I chose this area because little crowded and full of facilities in which to find other equipment. During the two days I’ve never seen anyone and I had only fired a few shots to kill a boar in the forest from which I have got good steaks.

The last day I decided to move further north but before I checked out a barn. I was in that barn many times and the zombies outside were no longer a problem. While I checked the items on the first platform I heard footsteps approaching and the characteristic scream of the zombies pointing out they had heard or seen someone.

I was not in a perfect location, behind some crates and a ladder to the left, but I had a good view of the staircase that led up to my level.

The fear grew as I heard the footsteps come ever closer.
Which of my weapons would have been better in that situation?
The M4A3 or Colt1911?
I chose the M4A3 thinking I had more available shots before reloading.

I held up the stairs at gunpoint while I could hear the footsteps of the man who was entering the barn.

The barn had two platforms on each side and hoped that the survivor would take the opposite to where I was … but it was not so. I saw him appear on the stairs. A man in a ghillie suite. I hesitated a second. My finger on the trigger dell’M4A3 started to put pressure on the cold metal. It seemed like an eternity. I could not afford to make mistakes or do not immediately kill the man. Instantly after my rifle fired a volley of three shots.

Damn it! I aimed at his head but the recoil and the instant of hesitation that I had made me completely miss the mark.
In a split second he was already on the moving platform and he started shooting at me. The shooting lasted just over two seconds, but, probably, we have fired more than 20 or 30 rounds. I did not manage to hit him because I was blocked by the stairs to the upper floor (I knew that this was not a good position!). He was without doubt the best at shooting and kept his cool.

I died.

(note: I wanted to congratulate my opponent even if you do not know his name and restate that bellissmo Dayz is really a game. I had an adrenaline rush during the shootout with my opponent that hardly forget.)

(tip: I learned many things from this event and I want to share with you.

- Never use the rifles in tight spaces
- In a shootout between two people at close range guns are preferred.
- If you’re forced to fight in a bad position, you must create a diversion. Launch a flare or a can and then assaults the opponent.
- Do not log out, you will lose a lot of fun.

DayZ Day 10 A nice restart

After the server had decided that I had died I wanted to take a few hours of entertainment without thinking of survival. After being spawned I headed to Cherno and went into town and running without worry of being seen and chased by zombies or survivors. Was exhilarating to be chased by a dozen zombies and enter a house where there was a poor survivor of intent to collect food. At first it appeared uncertain whether to shoot me or the horde of zombies that came into the room without stopping. Fired a shot at me and then pointed his Makarov toward zombies horde, another shot to me and another burst of gunfire toward zombies … he was really confused. Obviously in the end I was killed, but he probably did not survive.

I enjoyed this for a couple of spawn and I must say it was useful to break the tension of the game.

Then I headed for Cherno do some loot and look for a weapon. A new adventure was beginning and started positively. I entered to Cherno through the port and headed straight to the center of town where there are buildings very good for looting. After finding a Makarov and a good part of the equipment that I consider essential to begin to explore (see http://www.dayzblog.com/dayz-tips-guide/) I headed to the construction site to the east and then to the barn just north where I find a CZ 550.

After I moved away from Cherno I headed north to the Zub Castle. I have easily entered the castle, and inside I found ammunition for the CZ and some food. In the afternoon I decided to go north. I left the castle tower carefully as I could hear the zombies were particularly active. I approached the gate, and as I walked by I see a survivor who is entering prone. Everything was done in an instant. One moment to think … SHOOT! In that moment we looked into eyes … we targeted each other … I fired a whole magazine of Makarov on the target while trying to move but he shot me. I was badly injured .. and I was bleeding. I descended quickly down the hill and found a shelter where I bandage my wounds.

I turned my eyes towards the castle to find out if the survivor had followed me. Nothing. I was sure I hit him several times. (If you do not have a high value equipment is always worth to try to kill any survivor that could have a nice loot.)

I returned to the gate and the sound of flies predicted that I would find a dead body. So it was. The survivor was on the ground lifeless. I rushed in and rummage through his belongings with great satisfaction I have taken:
M4A3 CCO with several magazines
Colt1911 with different magazines
alice pack full of everything
map, clock, tent and more.

It was time to leave. This is Dayz …. this is my story.
