DayZ – Real Chernarus

(IMPORTANT NOTE:
First of all I would like to reassure all those who may feel offended by this post. If you believe that any of these photos may offend you, please send me an email with the information about it and I will remove them immediately info@dayzblog.com.
The Czech Republic is a great nation, rich in history and territories of exceptional beauty. I think that should be visited to appreciate its beauty, traditions, breathtaking landscapes, people, monuments and not to make a pilgrimage to see the places where it is set Dayz. Do not go to these places to see the Dayz’ barns or look for a zombie, several people may be offended and irritated by this unpleasant invasion. Go to the Czech Republic .. do not go to Chernarus.)

DayZ – Personal thoughts

After playing many hours Dayz and after finding my way in this apocalyptic world I would like to share with you readers my personal thoughts about this wonderful mod.
In my life I’ve played many games and only one can compete with Dayz regarding the intensity of emotions aroused: EVE Online.
I am a veteran of EVE Online and in Dayz I found again the tension in dealing with another player, the adrenaline rush killing an opponent, the terror of not knowing what you expect in a few moments, the gratification of exploring unknown places. In a few months Dayz has matched subscriptions of EVE Online (the sandbox for excellence) and this can not be an accident.
Many points are in favor of Dayz:
1) Even alone you can be successful . This was true for EVE online a few years ago but after the changes in the mechanics of the game is no longer possible to play EVE Online and be successful alone.
2) Dayz is very real while in EVE online have recently introduced the human characters and in any case there is still no interaction between them.
3) In Dayz you lose everything if you die, but it is easy to regain the lost items. In EVE there is insurance but to be competitive you must have items of high value and losing a ship several billion worth is frustrating.
4) many other reasons that it is better not to face here;)

In DayZ website are well highlighted three steps:
- scavenge
- slay
- survive

Scavenge:
Equip does not require further action such as building, mining, learn skills, experience points, etc.
You just have to go somewhere and search without being seen by zombies or survivors. What really matters is the player and not the character.

Slay:
You can choose to only kill the zombies or the other survivors.
You can kill only those who have good equipment or you can kill everyone on sight. You can even choose to remain in the shadows and avoid any kind of encounter. In Dayz if you meet an hostile group the fight is more balanced, is a real gunfight while in EVE Online is ALWAYS all against one, and becomes only a matter of time and luck if you die or live.
In Dayz is very easy to kill someone with better gear than yours.

Survive:
In Dayz you can live without any special features. You only need some matches, a hatchet and you can live forever. Also only surviving is interesting because you have to find food and water and this implies an interaction with the world of Dayz.

Finally, there is no endgame in Dayz … you just have to survive as long as possible. No matter the equipment you own … what matters is the minute that you can be in the game without dying.

DayZ Day 11 – The Ghillie Man

With all my new equipment I lived for a couple of days in a forest near a village. I chose this area because little crowded and full of facilities in which to find other equipment. During the two days I’ve never seen anyone and I had only fired a few shots to kill a boar in the forest from which I have got good steaks.

The last day I decided to move further north but before I checked out a barn. I was in that barn many times and the zombies outside were no longer a problem. While I checked the items on the first platform I heard footsteps approaching and the characteristic scream of the zombies pointing out they had heard or seen someone.

I was not in a perfect location, behind some crates and a ladder to the left, but I had a good view of the staircase that led up to my level.

The fear grew as I heard the footsteps come ever closer.
Which of my weapons would have been better in that situation?
The M4A3 or Colt1911?
I chose the M4A3 thinking I had more available shots before reloading.

I held up the stairs at gunpoint while I could hear the footsteps of the man who was entering the barn.

The barn had two platforms on each side and hoped that the survivor would take the opposite to where I was … but it was not so. I saw him appear on the stairs. A man in a ghillie suite. I hesitated a second. My finger on the trigger dell’M4A3 started to put pressure on the cold metal. It seemed like an eternity. I could not afford to make mistakes or do not immediately kill the man. Instantly after my rifle fired a volley of three shots.

Damn it! I aimed at his head but the recoil and the instant of hesitation that I had made me completely miss the mark.
In a split second he was already on the moving platform and he started shooting at me. The shooting lasted just over two seconds, but, probably, we have fired more than 20 or 30 rounds. I did not manage to hit him because I was blocked by the stairs to the upper floor (I knew that this was not a good position!). He was without doubt the best at shooting and kept his cool.

I died.

(note: I wanted to congratulate my opponent even if you do not know his name and restate that bellissmo Dayz is really a game. I had an adrenaline rush during the shootout with my opponent that hardly forget.)

(tip: I learned many things from this event and I want to share with you.

- Never use the rifles in tight spaces
- In a shootout between two people at close range guns are preferred.
- If you’re forced to fight in a bad position, you must create a diversion. Launch a flare or a can and then assaults the opponent.
- Do not log out, you will lose a lot of fun.

DayZ Day 8 Surprise!

During the eighth day I explored the area around the castle of Zeb and before the sun went down, I was back at the castle. During the approach I have heard several gunshots in the distance but I could not understand the direction.

I approached the castle from the south and I had a strange feeling. I prefered to double-check before entering the building and decided to hide behind a wall for a better look. As I lean over to watch the entrance to the main tower I saw two men out. I have been detected and immediately I heard one of them shouting: “FRIENDLY (?)”. I do not know if it is a question or a statement but I didn’t lose precious time and started to run down the slope. I’m running trying to get away as much as possible. I come near a large pine tree and hid among its branches and remain motionless. I try to see if they followed me.

I’m confused. But I decide to stay hidden for a while.

Silence.

After some time I have decided to move.

I approached the castle with great care. I do not hear anything. Before entering I must scan the outer perimeter. Nothing. I decided to enter the tower. Moving slowly, checking every corner, I climb the stairs looking up. On the first floor there are two bodies lying on the ground.

I absolutely have to check the roof. Who killed those two is probably still on the roof. I climb the stairs slowly. There’s a body on top of the stairs. Another dead. I turn to check the entire roof. Another body.

There was a fierce gunfight.

While checking bodies I think what might have happened and I come to a conclusion.

At the same time that I was being seen by the two who were leaving the tower there were two others who came from the north. They have heard the shout “FRIENDLY” and approached the tower. The two that came out of the tower are felt surrounded by three (me and the other two from the north) and have decided to barricade themselves in the tower. There was a shootout between the four as I walked away. The last one left alive was probably bled to death.

Those four were well equipped and I have trouble figuring out what to get.
I took lot of AK ammunition and I took a lee enfield that I put in the Czech Backpack . I am fully charged and I decide to spend the night outside the castle.

What a surprise!

DayZ Day 5 Mishkino

At dawn of the fifth day, after eating and drinking, I decide to go to Mishkino, a village that given its location should not attract a lot of bandits.

I decide to take it easy and travel slowly. I did not have cans of beans and almost no water, it’s better not to waste energy. Once I arrived near the village I settle under a tree in sight of the outer buildings to assess the situation. I spend several hours, motionless, peering into zombies that wander through the buildings. When I decide to get up and go into the village I have sore muscles and a volley from the AKM bursts into the valley. WTF! In a few seconds a dozen zombies are upon me, and I find it hard to shoot them down. The AKM, however, not forgive and in a few tens of seconds are all grounded. This neglect has cost me 3 magazines of AKM.

Finally, within the village, no zombies around, I seized a house and get ready for the night.

The first night in a house. Probably this will be the first and last night I spend in a building at night … the screams of the zombies in the streets do not help you sleep and there was also the visit of someone with a vehicle which has inspected the roads that literally terrified me.

DayZ Day 4 Not a nice farm

I wake up early in the morning, I did not sleep well but sheltered under the branches of the pine I have not suffered much from the cold. I’m thirsty and hungry and I drink from the bottle while controlling Pavlovo with binoculars. Strangely I do not see zombies wandering the streets.

I decide that I should not miss this opportunity and start to get close to the village. Apparently no one around. Checking every corner, checking all the houses … nothing. A rabbit walks beside me and reminds me that I have not eaten. I open my backpack to take the can of beans … I do not find … gone! Stupid! I just throw this out when I was in the forest but then I decided to explore the village. Would be useless and dangerous to go back and search for it. I could probably shoot the rabbits but would draw the attention of the zombies or bandits. I have to go north. Maybe I’ll find some animal in the forest to feed me.

I enter the forest north of Pavlovo and I go slowly because of hunger. I can not find any animals. I strive to move forward. The path becomes increasingly difficult. Finally I arrived at the edge of the forest in view of two buildings. It’s a farm!!…a barn and a pigsty…and many zombies around. I’m hungry and I can not go forward. I must eat something!.

The plan is to explore the two buildings in search of food without being seen by the zombies. I slowly approached the barn, a zombie comes up to me at very short distance. I hold my breath. He is just steps away from me. Luckily he has a damaged eye and can not see me. I am inside the barn with large open doors. If I close the doors would draw the attention of the zombies. I have to work carefully. I find some ammunition, two crossbows and bolts, a bit ‘of morphine, but nothing to eat. I go through a small door and head for the stye.

On the other side of the room I see something on the ground and a door on the right. I move cautiously. WTF only other darts. I enter the room on the right and finally find some cans of beans. Outside I hear the groans of many zombies and I decide to eat immediately, even if the place is not exactly healthy.

Now I must find a way out through dozens of zombies. I go slowly through the door but just off a zombie sees me and starts running towards me. In a few seconds many zombies are upon me. I start to run frantically towards the nearby forest, but several zombies are chasing me. I turn around and start shooting. One of them hurt my arm and started to bleed. They are all on the ground and I look around to see if more come. One zombie is approaching and I hit him in the head from a distance. Quickly I bandage the wound and head for the safety of the forest.

After a long climb, reached the top, I decide to camp and rest.

DayZ Hacked

The devs posted in the official forum this statement:

“A person has gained access to our main email account which have details listed for our FTP’s, etc. He then uploaded a malicious application to the US file host which has since been taken offline.
The file was called dayz_auto_updater.exe This malicious software is lead to be a backdoor / bot. Below is the ThreatExpert report on this file.

ThreatExpert also explains where this malicious application installs / moves its processes to stay hidden within your computer. So if you downloaded dayz_auto_updater.exe take immediate action.

I just want to clarify that I have recommended in THIS post to download DayZ Updater and this is NOT in any way related with the dayz_auto_updater.exe that was uploaded in the official DayZ repository. DayZ Updater is safe as far as i know.

DayZ Day 3 Gathering ideas

..During the night I could not sleep for more than 2 hours in a row and I thought about what to do. I have good equipment and among the things found yesterday on the two bodies were also an ax and some matches. I can light a fire if I need. A tent would be better than fire, you do not see it from afar and keeps you warm during the night but for now I adapt myself to sleep under the boughs of a pine. I hope I never get sick.

The original plan was to go to the military base to look for a better weapon but now there is no reason to risk. The coast is known to be a high risk area where there are many bandits lurking. I spend several minutes studying the map to decide the new destination. I will go north.

From the forest south of Pavlovo I will go to the north-east towards Zelenogorsk. On the outskirts of town I will turn to the northeast in the direction of a deer stand. After crossing the main road I will go north through the forests..no zombies and no bandids..i hope.

DayZ Day 2 A long day’s journey

I climb the hill quickly and once on top, after checking if there was anyone around, I lean to the trunk and start to think of a plan.

I have a gun, not a lot of ammunition, some bandages and a few other things … I will not go very far if I do not find a better weapon. I decided that my goal will be the Bolota’s military base . It’s several kilometers away and I decide to cover them into the forests to minimize eventual encounters.

I go to the dam Topolka where there are many zombies. I need water and crawling in the tall grass I can get closer to the lake, in the same way I succeed to enter the building’s guard where I find a couple of magazines for my pistol and a can of soda.

I continue to go west, using the sun to maintain the direction. Arrived at a small village called Pusta I hear gun shots come from a barn. one, two, many. then silence. After a few minutes I approached slowly and quietly. There are several zombies, but I can get into the barn without being seen. I close the doors and on the balcony I see two bodies lying on the ground. Here there was an execution, but strangely murderers did not steal anything. I hurry to retrieve as much as possible. An ak47, a colt, plenty of bullets, a bag of blood, alice bag, binoculars, compass, map and various other things. The voice screams in my mind again. Hurry up!

I go out fast trying not to be seen by zombies nor by bandits. I left the village without being seen, and I walk away as quickly as possible. I was lucky to get all that gear but those two were killed by someone who is probably still around.

West West. I keep going westward always in forests, not to be seen.

I walk all day arriving at sunset near Pavlovo. I recognize the distinctive dome of the church. I am exhausted and I notice several zombies wandering among the houses. It’s too dangerous to enter the village. I decide to camp in the forest just outside Pavlovo.

I have been able to live another day.
